I’m not a man. I’m not a woman. I’m not black. I’m not white. I’m not Asian. I’m not Hispanic. I’m not bi or multi-racial.
I’m an American. I’m a Democrat. I believe in Democracy and in the democratic political process. I believe in the Constitution of the United States. I believe in the Declaration of Independence. I’m vehemently opposed to the war in Iraq. I care that we are dependent upon foreign oil. I care that our economy is in a downturn. I care about our heroes and in protecting their lives.
What I don’t understand is how any American Presidential Candidate would tell the Democratic National Committee’s Rules & Bylaws Committee on Saturday May 31, 2008, that American voters who voted in a verified state election should NOT be fully counted; that it is their CONCESSION to give Florida half of their delegates and half of their superdelegate votes.
Is it not a fundamental right of ALL Americans the right to vote and have their vote count? Our recent history of elections may have shown this not to be the norm but as an American, I do believe in my right to vote and for that vote to count. Does it not matter that Florida has been through this un-American voting practice dating back to the late 1800’s? And why would we, as Democrats, FORGET that Florida’s Republican controlled House and Senate along with their Republican Governor manipulated the Democrats just to inspire this type of an outcome. Did they forget that Florida citizens are the ones who pay their salaries yet their vote…their voice…would be tossed away like political trash? How can one of OURS…a Democrat…follow in their despicable footsteps? Did we forget the debacle that STOLE the election away from Gore in 2000? In turn, look at the shocking turn of events in our country and in the world under the Bush Administration. Counting the human toll is beyond reasonable and rational comprehension.
What I don’t understand is how any true Democrat would argue against having every vote being count regardless of their agenda. Obama has the delegates wrapped up anyway. Apparently, when you are in the mind set of “win at all costs” then you can bypass a little thing called the Constitution of the United States. To suggest, as Robert Wexler, D-Florida (representing Senator Obama) did to the Rules & Bylaws Committee that Florida be counted only by half of the 1.75 verified voters is shocking to me at best. Even with his Candidate in the lead, Senator Obama chose not to act in accordance with this fundamental democratic right of all Americans.
I know that politicians stoop to new lows but this is a blatant affront to all Americans. When will that mystique wear off of Senator Obama and Americans wake up to the fact that he’s wearing no clothes?
